Claude Code on my Hetzner VPS
On 18 January 2026 by Dmytro Kondakov
Writing about this might be a bit dated, and most people already know this setup, but man, how much I love it.
I moved all my side projects to a single Hetzner VPS, and it’s been so fun.
Inspired by a post from levelsio about using Claude Code to manage his server, I thought I had to try this.
Now this website, and a bunch of tools I’ve built for myself, all live on one €4/month server. Caddy handles HTTPS, Bun runs the backend, and it just works.
The most fun part is how I actually build things.
Outside of working hours, I’m usually away from my MacBook. So I SSH into the server directly from my phone using Termix (it aesthetically feels better than Termius to me). It’s configured to automatically spin up Claude Code when I connect. I just prompt it with what I want, and it writes the code, manages the services, and updates configs.
I built the website you’re seeing right now from my phone, in my bed. If I have an idea for a side project or website, I don’t write it down to maybe build later. I just ship it the moment the idea comes.
